the obvious comparison is throwing weapons vs bows.. and by that comparison, throwing weapons attack much faster, is one-handed, but have very short range.. bow is the opposite
however, when you get the different throwing weapons and look closely into them, you'll see they can be used other than well, a weapon
so it depends on how you use them and what skills you use them with
edit: example is neiths will which i use for casters.. then there are 3 thrown weapons that have cast speed which can be useful for a trapper rogue: flakes of muspelheim, jade shuriken, and touch of nyx.. then there is winds of asphodel which can be used for reducing resistances (good for secondary).. ra's touch if you only need +1 like for a petmaster
