[IW] LIT Mod
« on: 25 August 2024, 16:38:44 »

*Someone said "LIT" is an abbreviation for "lire", the old currency in Italy, but I don't trust them.

Since the release of the game in 2006 and its anniversary edition in 2016, there have been numerous attempts at creating a "community/unofficial patch" (like Bugfix Patch v1.17 or AFBF). However, the main problem was THQNordic, the current owner of the franchise, splurting out expansion packs at an inhuman pace and thus invalidating the attempts. However, with the big financial problems of Embracer Group (which owns THQ Nordic) and Titan Quest 2 being worked on, it's almost guaranteed that TQ in version of v2.10.21415 from 21.08.2022 is officially the very last update *ever*.

The fandom is now free to consolidate its efforts in consolidating bug fixes accumulated over the years that are still in Titan Quest: Anniversary Edition. Since it's a good time as any, I will go first.

What always aggravated me the most in the original Titan Quest weren't the mechanical/script bugs but the UI/world graphics not clearly differentiating between the "material" qualities of weapons and armor. Copper and bronze often look the same, or iron is close to bronze, all in terms of colors. Or wrongly colored and assigned altogether, especially some epic equipment. Things get even worse with the magical items, since the material name is then omitted...

Here is the properly recolored collection that is currently under construction:

It's going to take me some time to recolor everything since this is my "after hours" project while I take care of the other ones. But it will be delivered, and thanks to the modern, improved libraries and tools, edits and conversions are lightning fast and quality loss free.

If you have any input, lay it on me. See you around!

Alrighty then. It's been a very long while, but this mod is back on track. Mainly because with the release of TQ II, THQ Nordic stopped development of TQ:AE. This means I can finally go with this without being obstructed with new content out of nowhere, haha.

While correction of the items' sprites is still the core of this mod, I decided to implement something else first: textual fixes. There are tons of issues with the textual conveyance in the game, especially with the DLCs. The weird formatting and random new lines are everywhere, not to mention many grammar mistakes or outright discrepancies (mainly with NPCs' names). Descriptions for charms and relics are either very lacking or too long in many cases. The character sheet has wrong names for attributes/abilities/resistances that do not match the ones coming from equipment. The list goes on and on, so it's high time to tackle this topic first. After all, Grim Dawn has this section thoroughly polished, and we don't want TQ to be worse, right?

Awesome. I managed to wrap up the first beta version of cleaned up archive with text strings for everything. English only, of course. If anyone want to test it, it's in the MEGA link below. Make sure to report any issues (there might be few with wrong strings, etc. as this is still a fresh thing) and/or drop any feedback. Only thing left for this are skill descriptions for each.

I already planned an NSIS installer with backup options for everything for future proper release, so for now, you will have to make the backup yourself!!! Also, since some files from the original archive weren't used (as discerned by the disassembled game's executable and dynamic libraries), I got rid of them (the strings that do were put to use were moved to other files), thus the somewhat smaller size.

Quick changelog for text archive:

- deleted filler and warning texts
- deleted many repeated entries (there were quite a few, especially in Ragnarock)
- erased several semicolons and replaced them with full stops or commas (they were seldom used, anyway)
- followed the original TQ's established convention for certain weapon names (the 2006's version like "Battle Axe" or "Long Bow" or "Leaf Blade" and not "Battleaxe" or "Longbow" or "Leafblade", for example)
- polished all descriptions for charms, relics, and scrolls
- reduced the variety of the apostrophes used to one (there were ' and ‘ and ’ and ´ and `, so now there is only the first one [the most numerous one in the first place])
- refined the texts for the "character sheet" in all three tabs
- removed tons of "whitespace" (that means doubled spaces, "spacetabs", and empty spaces at the end of lines)
- replaced the special ASCII ellipsis character used in some places with bundles of three periods (it was far less frequent)
- unified codepage to UTF-16 LE BOM and EoL to CR LF for all files
- unified the randomly used short, long, doubled, minus, and regular "dashes" and "hypens" (the only one remaining is now - [it won by landslide])
