Challenge: Theorycrafting alternative builds
« on: 07 December 2017, 12:26:04 »
One of the best features of this game has always been the option to choose two masteries and it has resulted in us players of thinking of different skills that goes well together regardless of the focus a mastery gives.

This has sometimes led to alternative builds like the melee elementalist or the OP petmaster spellbreaker from TQIT (100% CDR). And now, for the sake of nothing other than fun, i am challenging anyone interested to craft their own alternative builds. I am not saying we start from scratch and make a toon and play it. This is just for fun theorizing alternative builds that maybe could work, xmax or not.

Like "Elementalist, and how not to build it ...  .... hmm wait maybe we could build it like so?"

So, anyone up for this?

The petmaster champion passes this from my POV

Right now I'm thinking of a melee/bow soothsayer with wolves. Deathchill aura, strength of the pack, unearthly power, plague, briar ward with sanctuary, HoO. Why not?

For like one month i have been thinking of a vitality damage dealing pets warlock. Vitality damage wraithlord's rings, Unearthly Power, and Circle of Power to boost traps. But this feels wrong because pierce from traps are weak against undeads and constructs, and vitality damage doesn't address that. Maybe ternion would but meh it wouldn't feel like an alternative build.

Several months back i have thought of an int based brigand focusing on pet enhancers and cooldown reduction. Bonus to pets items and permanent call of the hunt to boost traps. But somehow i couldn't complete this theoretical build. I always felt it would be worlds weaker than a regular brigand. So this doesn't pass the test imo.. unless someone can think of a way to make this great and complete my theoretical build.

Doesn't matter if it's gear dependant or not, this is just theorycrafting anyways. Any mastery combination is welcome as long as the route to building is not the obvious choice.

For ragnarok i can think of a throwing weapon user conqueror or elementalist. But that is only for ragnarok. Maybe archer for elementalist

gasconron's 70% int Thane/Battlemage counts imo :)

The dual-wield Persephone's Caress ice shard Thane also counts (damn it still hasn't lost its coolness up to this day)

Anyone care to share their ideas?

let's think crazy

I'll add one.. I'm thinking diviner (spirit/dream).. a diviner is probably best played as a ternion vit damage (especially if we have praxidikae).. if we don't have a vit staff, we can still probably play this as melee since we have deathchill aura, lucid dream, psionic touch, and phantom strike.. so the rule is we don't get ternion and we don't play melee (this is irritating).

https://www.kirmiziperfect.com/titancalc-anniversary-edition/TitanCalc7070.html?mastery=Diviner&master1=2&master2=9&sa=21&m1=32-6-0-0-8-6-1-0-6-16-0-0-1-12-12-8-1-0-1-16-0-0&m2=32-0-0-0-12-1-0-6-16-0-0-0-0-8-1-0-6-0-0-8-0-0

we get lots of pets instead.. where do we get the pets? we mind control our enemies.. why trance of empathy? so our so called pets gets thorns and life steal.. then we boost them with unearthly power and nightmare mastermind.. what happens when the mind control duration is over? we scare them with vision of death.. then we mind control other pets again.. max enslave spirit with 80% CDR has 9sec cooldown (in AE).. how about bosses? let's just hope we gathered enough pets + the outsider and lich can take them.. maybe get behemoth or scroll of the maddened god as well

this is ridiculous.. can this beat legendary? i don't know.. the goal is to have fun by exploring skills we don't usually use.. who knows, we might find hidden synergies somewhere.. expanding our knowledge is better than expanding our tqvault  :)

I had a few ideas for builds I thought were crazy, but I always felt like trying them. I don't know how many of these I'll follow through with, and when if I do, but here goes.

Poison Ternion Warlock: So... I found Apophis Serpent. It deals base poison damage now; I think that's great. I like the newfound variety among staves. So I thought - what about maxed Envenomed Weapon tree, Ternion Attack and Arcane Lore? Add Poison Gas Bomb if you need to, and you're good to go! Poison everyone! Except undead and constructs, hmm. I'm not sure what's up with them. Of course you'd get the Liche King for resistance reduction, but it's not all that reliable. I guess Spirit Bane with Throwing Knife takes care of undead. I'm not sure about constructs and devices, though, fortunately they're not very abundant and usually not very dangerous.

Trickster Fortress: I remember seeing somewhere that traps are now affected by pet bonuses. I don't know about Guardian Stones, but I thought of using both for deploying a veritable fortress in the middle of any battleground. I found Wraithlord's amulets and rings in legendary Egypt, those seem promising. Throw up some additional Menhir Walls to block incoming enemies, and you really have a stronghold! I guess the main issue is the long recharge time of Guardian Stones, but even with my Stonespeaker's 55% recharge reduction it doesn't look that bad, let alone at 80% (I imagine). Both Rune and Rogue have plenty of skills left to support the build; I imagine the Trickster would be busy throwing Seals of Fate down for that sweet resistance reduction to make the job much easier for the stones and traps. Who knows?

yeah i just have to charge my phone to reply to this.. I'm happy someone replied to my thread and someone is thinking crazy too.. the permanent guardian stones I'm actually looking to do it on my skinchanger relying on refresh and CDR

a few months back, dlb sensei from reddit (fowlteer in steam), we would throw crazy ideas at each other.. that was so fun and much like the manga strip i posted above, we thought of a lot of crazy good builds that way.. he had his.. mine was:

mage haruspex - yep of course i had to think crazy using physical damage for a mage

physical damage ternion - while this was meant as a half joke, i felt proud when i saw physical damage staves in ragnarok because i did it pre-ragnarok

dual wield key of Elysium knifethrower assassin - this one is so good just very gear dependant
