Sadly that's how most hobby projects with ongoing social interaction can end.

It's just burnout caused by high-maintenance community service with little satisfying return. Privately, you just create freely. Publicly, you feel accountable and you have to deal with low-quality input and entitlement of people that know no better.

I don't know what exactly happened on discord, but I would probably do the same even if it didn't happen. I wouldn't even bother doing any free projects to begin with. The constant need to manage people, answer questions, and justify decisions drains far more energy than it gives back...and for what?
