Why Aren't I Immortal?
« on: 20 December 2017, 04:22:42 »
With a level 12 Runeword: Absorb and the legendary shield: Ancile; my Shield Recovery Time should be 104% (67 from Absorb and 37 from Ancile).
My Block chance should be 107% (53% from Ancile, 39% from Conqueror's Bracers, 15% from level 4 Focus).
So in theory, I should be immune to anything that inflicts 736 damage or less (Ancile's damage threshold).

Yet for some reason, the character is still taking damage - even on normal difficulty where there is basically no chance of any enemy pulling off that kind of damage.

So what exactly is going on here? Does Block Chance or Shield Recovery have some kind of cap that I am unaware of, or is there some kind of stacking issue (maybe multiplicative rather than additive stacking?)

Because only Gods and Titans can be immortal  O0 If I recall correctly, in Anniversary Edition, they changed the way blocking worked.

I take it you probably don't have any specific details on that one?

I never really liked the immortality gimmicks in the vanilla TQ:IT.

This is a good thing. Being able to shrug off most attacks or mitigate most damage should be good enough. Expectations of leaving your toon AFK in a mob without getting damaged is something that needed changing anyway.
xmax hardcore is the only way to play this game.

I agree - I was mostly just trying to figure out the mechanics of it. I'm pretty sure the reason why I still suffered damage was due to Shield Recovery being capped at 90%.

shield recovery is capped at 90%

http://titanquest.wikia.com/wiki/Shields

shield block chance, not sure

edit: gasconron still hates the immortal haruspex from TQIT lol me too

edit 2: i really feel DA has been nerfed ever since AE.. i feel 1500 DA isn't as effective in AE as it was in IT.. even 1000 DA.. but it's just personal observations from playing the game.. just speculations

You would be right about that. I don't know the specifics, but this line was included in the AE changelog: "- Defensive Ability greatly exceeding the attacker's Offensive Ability yields diminishing returns".
It is also much harder to even get DA scores that high considering most %age based bonuses like Wood Lore have now become flat bonuses.

my DW assassin has 1500+ DA with mantle of secretos, kael's visage, and argonauts set.. my bow haruspex in TQIT has 2000+ DA but as i remember even with 1500, i can still drink coffee in front of mobs.. i can't do that with my assassin

Can't remember which TQ.net thread I got it from years ago, but 2,200 DA was recommended to be unkillable. Figures were: DA 1,000/OA 900 as minimum, DA 1,400 was good, DA 2,200 unkillable. Can't say any of my toons got anywhere near those figures, but then they did (do) die a lot.  ;D

nah I'm sure 2000 DA was unkillable enough.. i was actually trying to lower my DA back then.. 1900 was unkillable enough.. 1500DA back then feels like 80% chance to dodge.. right now it feels like 50%

of course it depends on the monsters.. it's just my general feel

edit: I'm actually amazed there was a haruspex in TQIT that could lower it's DA to 1000.. i was trying to lower my DA but it was hard to get it as low as 1000 without sacrificing premonition and wood lore.. it must have been low level or one who doesn't put any points in dex

edit 2: there really were no unkillable characters even from TQIT.. even a haruspex could still die from dactyl, barmanu or from the death ball of Hades.. so for those circumstances some careful playing were still required

I still remember killing barmanu by reflecting his attack back to him with my guardian. Fun days, we need time to create guides for the AE version and understand the new mechanics, im pretty sure we can find some masteries that will be nearly unkillable. Giving it a go atm, with a new toon .

Nope DA never worked against his meteors, you would need ctap for that. I had over 20k health and a lot of defense and elemental resistance on my guardian, i would just use 1 pot while i was getting damaged by the meteors and he would die.

Yes the DA effect was changed.
While the progression is essentially the same up to about +300 DA vs OA, the miss chance at more extreme differences gradually approaches a max of 90%
- Which is still pretty dope, but no longer immortality.

CtD and CtaP simply hit a hard cap at 80%.
