Title: Ragnarok: New Critters, New Headaches.
Post by: gasconron on 10 December 2017, 16:21:02
I just ran my 0 death Conqueror in xMax AE:R Legendary today. It was rough start to finish. Everything hurts; and I'm saying this with a ~1400 DA, ~60+ all resists, 10k HP with stacked armor and semi-perma quick recovery. Ragnarok isn't a walk in the park even for a Conqueror. There's some nasty hard hitting baddies out there and a bajillion projectiles pelting you down. I was downing scrolls of the Arrow Dancer like mad.

I'm actually worried for my non-cookie cutter classes, didn't expect this much difference in damage output. Or maybe it's because everything is new and not much is known about the critters in AE:R; leading to lack of preparation.

My personal annoyances in AE:R
- centaurs spamming warhorns that chunk %HP are back.
- troll projectile swarm (new rendition machae)
- ygdrassiil and valhalla area (damage reflect trolls, Battle Standard mobs, warhorn peeps)
- Aesir fight was rough
- Black Elves (damn the damage...)

Share your Ragnarok experiences here. Any squishie  one-shot stories you wanna share?
Which monsters did you have a hard time with and which bosses didn't you guys like?

I always hated those centaurs that cast the banner and has the warhorn, especially when there's a bunch of their allies and they encircle you.

i haven't played TQ:R with xmax yet because i want to experience it as it is first.. but, I'll still share.

my first try with my illusionist, haven't finished act 4 legendary yet, the difficulty spike was very noticeable.. well, i skipped act 5 normal and epic so i was handicapped.. i got back to act 3 to get the new portal in Olympus.. telkine almost killed me.. maybe i underestimated him because he was never a threat before.. but i heard that dudung!! sound.. when i continued in act 4, i can clearly see i was underlevelled, i was 68/69 fighting 80/81 mobs.. i was actually buying health pots :) .. i don't buy health pots before.. didn't die though.. illusionist just has many tricks to stay alive, regrowth being at the forefront.

my knifethrower sorcerer previously finished legendary so i just continued to act 5.. also underlevelled and handicapped but still going strong.. none of that difficulty spike thing.. i did die once but really it shouldn't count.. i was exploring an area (not really an area but just a big pedestal or something).. i was like "what's this for?", then when i was about to go down, a mob suddenly appeared (monster mermaids), i was trapped.. i got them confused but i got hit with nasty bleeds (not trolls but monster mermaids).. i thought my health pot could take it but a hero monster cast lightning bolt on me, boom dead.. i have 80% lightning res but my health was too low from the bleed.. i got back to them this time in an open area and no problems.. looking back though, if i wasn't handicapped and surprised, i could've avoided that because of energy shield (i was underlevelled so my energy shield that time was only level 1, level 5 with +4).

my bonecharmer stays on the shelf because it's boring to play.. my assassin, i don't know.. i don't play melee anymore.. my accomplished hero mage haruspex finished act 5 normal like it was a walk in the park (but it's just normal so it doesn't count)

I'm surprised you didn't mention those annoying water spirits

edit: (i copy paste my comment from another thread)
today my sorcerer reminded me that storm still has one of the best situational skills in the game.. I was battling fafnir the dragon for the first time and i was surprised by his skills.. I was having fun running around and occasionally hitting him.. until i remembered i have spellbreaker.. 2 casts and the fight quickly became a joke

I'm surprised you didn't mention those annoying water spirits

What stood out to me on my first playthrough were situations that got my Conq past half health. I usually use my Conq as a threshold in gauging the difficulty of certain areas in the game. If they can bring down a 10k HP, 1400 DA with high resists down to half HP (~5000+ worth of damage), which is usually my target end-game HP for most characters, then it is safe to assume that I need to be cautious/make preparations when playing in those specific areas on my future re-runs.

while spirits were annoying with their projectile spam, invulnerability animations and fast movement speed, their projectile damage output was nowhere near the Dark Elves in last areas of the game, or troll packs of axe throwers. Tbh, Dark elves make Machae Grandmaster damage seem like a joke, what damage do these guys do??? Only area in the game when my HP triggered critical. Never want to go through that tower again. It would be a sick joke if these guys actually had a decent MI on them; would hate to farm these things.

Water girls. Goddamn, they are annoying as fuck. Hard to kill, always kiting everywhere and spamming projectiles.
Nerta Shamans. Summon insects to annoy you. Summon flowers to bind you. Nothing helps against this shit, you are literally stuck to one place.
Alfheim elves with their Aktaios sun rays crap.
And of course, Black Elves. The damage is just through the roof.

Alfheim elves with their Aktaios sun rays crap.

of course how can I forget... in xmax, this was terrible... sunrays all over the place. it hurts a lot especially when stacked.

I was too busy trying to gtfo of Alfheim/Valhall ASAP. I spoiled my game experience and read through player reviews before playing.
I didn't know exactly which critters had damage reflect so I was too busy running than actually fighting.

A couple of new heroes I spotted in the cave in the Canyon of Isis: The All Devourer (slug) and something Speartail (scorpion). Died to the slug trying to get a decent screenshot.  >:(

I could've sworn the All Devourer was in the game before... Or not. I don't know.

Not new to the expansion, but to AE is Shadowmaw a fire breathing hyena hero who randomly spawns in the cave in the Phocian Swamp.  If you thought dealing with Cyclops was hard wait until you run into him.  Being not that high a level when you find him it's quite difficult.  Advice is to equip a bow, potshot and retreat, doing this all the way out of the cave since his leash has been extended and he'll now chase you all the way to the entrance.  I hadn't run into him since installing the expansion and wondered if he'd been removed from the game as being too difficult, but he spawned for my Runesmith, giving her her first death when she tried to go toe-to-toe with him as an experiment to see how well she could cope.  She didn't.  So back to bow and potshotting which took time, but did succeed in the end.  :)

At least he's not quite related so can be avoided if you want.

Another one just spotted - Nesis Firemaker (Firemarker?) - Satyr mage.  Didn't get a screenshot as didn't think of it until I killed it.  Edit: Nesis Fleshmender - healer Satyr.

Killing Shadow maw on Normal before leaving Greece is a Steam Achievement, and when my newest Xmax Dreamkiller saw 3 of him (but couldnt get credit due to mods) I cried a little. 10/12 distortion wave's EBD took all of them down in 4 waves each though, but shes super twinked too.

Do you have a copy of that list of old heroes? I want to see how many I recognize by name :)

Actually we do have a place to post new heroes:

So I guess new ones in the first 4 Acts in there and Ragnarök ones in this thread.

Tbh, Dark elves make Machae Grandmaster damage seem like a joke, what damage do these guys do???
very late answer but i actually tested this in epic.. tests for normal and legendary not yet done.. i tested this with one black elf only at a time but with different black elves.. all give same result.. they seem to deal vit damage also but the thing that makes black elves so dangerous is they cast a debuff on you and the numbers are what i tested (all values in %):

1st test:
pierce resist: from 24 to -14
physical resist: from 18 to -20
vit resist: from 65 to 27

2nd test:
pierce resist: from 61 to 23
physical resist: from 26 to -12
vit resist: from 36 to -2

3rd test:
pierce resist: from 24 to -14
physical resist: from 18 to -20
vit resist: from 45 to 7

for those who do not know the mechanics of RR yet, this will help:

https://titanquestfans.net/index.php?topic=238.0

from the values, the first thing i saw is the RR should be absolute because only those 3 are reduced.. 2nd, it went into the negatives so it should be flat.. simple math then gives a flat absolute reduction of -38

so in xmax, playing without any CC or arrow dancer is almost suicidal

im suprised, no1 talked about phantoms in mimer maze, when you kill then they cast spell breaker, that drains all your mana and buffs, pretty annoying for meeles.

I cant even think in xmaxx.

@sauruz late answer but might as well.
They are annoying as well but not really life threatening due to their relatively low damage output.
Unless you have a low-HP nature class dependent on HotO for his HP, they should be fine.
Since they are more annoying than actually dangerous I just run past them in xmax.

@botebote77 this is a good find. This make gear planning for AE:R easier.
So it's basically a debuff to Vita/Phys/Pierce. Might as well stack resists then instead of the -% damage from demons/magical

I'm guessing Fafnir and Sutry are underwhelming atm. Anyone experienced One-Shots in AE:R yet?

hm yeah forgot about this.. i planned to test normal and legendary also.. I'll do it tomorrow

also, is it just me or is the dual throwing range bug fixed now?
Title: Re: Ragnarok: New Critters, New Headaches.

Is it just me or did the Giants in Land's End get a massive damage buff? I'm running test concepts on "mage" toons in Legendary and they are critting very hard at 1.1-1.2k DA (about 2-3 hits).

This is reminiscient of me running 400-600 DA mages before I knew any better :( . I'm running capped fire and -10-15% physical resist as well. Anyone know what seems to be hitting me?

I think turning immunities as high resistances into damage absorption went a little too far on the example of ice giants in Jotunheim. These are nearly immune to ice shards skill. Good thing storm mastery also has lightning but I don't want to know how earth mastery performs in Muspelheim.

There are werewolf mobs in Jotunheim that seem to have some of the highest melee damage I have seen in game. They have a double swing attack that they use on you immediately and that appears to be the source of damage spikes. It is two hits technically so heal on low health artifacts have a chance to proc. They are easy to avoid with slow or skills like the new briar ward, but you don't want to be cornered by 2 of them still. Like when teleporting from Mimir to the surface, if you logged out prior to that and the area was repopulated.

i think most of the adjustments is because we're not used to act 5 yet.. the mobs just after the golden boar, i regularly die there with xmax.. it was only recently that i figured out how to deal with them (i think).. that will all change when i die there again ;D

good eye on ice and fire giants.. on my thunderer then i will switch builds as needed.. or get both lightning and ice shards

the wolves i think deal bleed but not sure.. i think i checked that sometime before but can't remember anymore

I've been there with another character and it is bleed indeed. They do not do as much direct damage as say eldyotun and are actually not very dangerous for a melee character unless very low on bleed res. But it seem to stack? The longer you stay there the more damage you take from bleed. I thought no DOTs are allowed to stack in TQ but don't remember all the nuances of mechanics of this game.
Title: Re: Ragnarok: New Critters, New Headaches.
Post by: botebote77 on 03 May 2018, 12:30:45
and i just ran my illusionist there just recently.. it is indeed bleed.. it will stack because DoT from different monsters stack.. it's why DoT bosses like Fafnir and hydra are more difficult in xmax.. died once, looked at my bleed res and saw it was -75%.. thought about looking for bleed res items on my TQvault, but decided I'm too lazy to do that so i just continued.. died couple more times ;D  ..  the jotuns though were not much of a problem.. they were too busy attacking my 7 pets
Title: Re: Ragnarok: New Critters, New Headaches.

I'm bumping this, I know, but does anyone know about the Angry Wasps in legendary?

They're pretty annoying; they don't seem to have much in the way of actual evasion (Guardian Stones deal with them just fine), but the way they move around and their small size makes it hard to target them with the cursor. Pretty frustrating to deal with.

More importantly, what kind of damage do they deal? They tear down a maxed (level 12) Energy Armor in less than a second, which is nearly 7000 health. It's a pretty impressive feat, but the question remains - what type of damage do they deal? Poison would make sense for them, but that doesn't affect Energy Armor. Physical, pierce, and bleed are all pretty nonsensical for wasps as far as I'm concerned (piercing in itself isn't, but in such huge quantities, yes it is).
Title: Re: Ragnarok: New Critters, New Headaches.

Poison is there by the sound and visual effect. Bleed - doesn't seem so by the visual again.

this is actually very useful to know... i've always thought they didn't stack because in the mechanics discussion it was always taken from the player's perspective when dealing the DoT damage. so i guess it would make sense that applying DoT damage on the same target doesn't speed up your killing speed.
However poison/bleed attacks from 3x Cerberus, Yaoguai's, Hydra's will DELETE your HP bypassing even high levels of % and flat damage absorption, because they are damage from "3 different sources." Is this even fair? lol?
Going by the same logic they should make it so that poison/bleed damage from regular auto attacks stack with DoT damage from skill attacks such as Lethal Strike.
