Item Skills and bonus to skills
« on: 24 January 2018, 18:44:26 »
If an item you are using gives you a skill, do items and shrines that give bonuses to skills effect it?

If I have a shield that provides my illusionists the ability of Battle Standard, and I have 3 items that provide a general +1 bonus.  Is that skill at 4 skill points or 1?

In addition, if I have an item that provides +2 to Battle Standard, I know it won't give me the Battle Standard skill, but will it boost my above Battle Standard skill?

Thanks for the help and information.

Skills from items aren't boosted as far as I know, but never tired this so can't say for sure.

Items which give +1/+2 do boost the base skill if you have points in it.  So if you have 1 point in Battle Standard and equip those 3 items they will boost BS up to 4 points.  They won't boost Triumph though, only the base skill.  Only + to all skills or + to all Warfare skills would boost both BS and Triumph.  The maximum skills can be boosted to is +4, though you can equip enough stuff to push it to +5 or even +6 - the reason for doing that is that you could then remove skill points from boosted skills and use them elsewhere yet still keep the +4 cap.

Sorry for the confusion, I meant, if I have a item that gives me battle standard as a skill, and an item that gives me plus plus 2 to battle standards, will the two stack.

I take it we aren't sure, since we don't know if even plus 1 to all skills will affect the skill.

I might have a way to test that.

There is a shield that grants battle standard.  It's pretty cool.  Since I have a few items that boost skills, I should just check it out.

I also found a throwing knife that grants volley, but that is such low level item, I had to give it up.   It did activate when I was duel wielding throwing weapons though.

And the answer is no.  Skill boosting items do not impact skills from items, even if they match the mastery.

I'm a little saddened by that.  It would have been cool if it was true.

Didn't think they would.  Only if it had been something changed for the AE version.  And, now I come to think of it, having skills from items is new to AE anyway.  Vanilla version never had them.

If you get a mastery shrine does it also affect your pet's skills? Seems related and have always wondered. (AE)

if you get a mastery shrine, you have to resummon all your pets.. the +4 won't effect if you don't resummon them but if you do, the +4 stays on them even after the effects of mastery shrine wears off.. off course it goes off when they die.. actually there is an old tactic of wearing +to pets or +to skills on secondary.. like if you have wolves but only able to summon 2 because you don't have +2 skills.. and you have +2 on secondary, you can switch to secondary to summon 3 wolves.. then switch to main weapon, you will still have 3 wolves

more info on granted skills.. CDR and refresh don't affect their cooldown unfortunately

Never heard you needed to do that before botebote77.  Is this a change for AE?  Because I know the GD devs changed their programme to make it so pets need to be resummoned to take advantage of the increase when you add points to their skills.  That's why as soon as you put a point in their skill tree they desummon (is that a word?).

Typhon, yes definitely look for items that give +1/+2 to Nature or +1/+2 to all skills.  For a Wanderer that's usually a staff and necklace - Wanderer's gives +1, Druid's gives +2.  There's also a Divine necklace for +1 to all skills and a Sacred which gives +2 to all.  Once you have +2 or more to Nature however you get them you can have 3 wolves all the time without needing to find a Mastery shrine.

When did you last try it?  I agree setting isn't for everyone.  It's not my favourite, but doesn't put me off the game.  Pets: well, they've been affected by the Grim Dawn too so would look unnatural.  Blight Fiend is quite cute in its green, slimy looking way.  ;D

Strange, I don't recall anyone ever mentioning that on the old forum ever.  :o

just by googling though you can find other people saying the same thing

can't remember when i last tried it but there is a way to try it.. take back skill points through mystic, get a pet like wisp for example at lvl4.. put 1pt to get it to lvl5 but don't resummon wisp.. see if it casts thunderclap.. or nightmare and see if it casts dream surge

i can't test atm.. that 160 boring runs (that i just posted) has drained my energy to the point that i can't play TQ for the next 2-3 days
