Guides AE / Re: Resistance Reduction Guide by apocalypse80
« on: 23 January 2018, 13:48:27 »
Now that I think about it, skills like "take down" seemingly lost all their value in boss fights right? Their special resistance against %reduction damage can not be lowered in any way anymore if I remember right.
So what would be their use then? just to "take down" a mage hiding behind melee mobs? I'm asking because I heavily invested in this skill and even considering to max its passive modifier. The damage will already be more than enough for a non-boss monster. Then what would %reduction do any good in addition to that?
I've always wondered this. Does reduction damage apply itself after the initial damage is done? Or is it vice versa?

I second what botebote77 said. ^^ I might add:

I use Take Down when my Class has no other charging options like, say, an Avenger. ;D

In those scenarios I actually don't use it to"Charge", I use it to "Flee":

Say one of those dreaded Undead Mages casts one of those raining Spells, I use Take Down to scram somewhere else. But the skill has a few issues:

- if my memory serve, you need a target to use this skill. So during 1-on-1 situations - say you versus a heroic monster, the skills is useless,

- you also need to be quite fast to make the skill work for you, be nimble with your "mouse work" ^^,

- the question is do you intend to "waste" 1 Skill Point to use an ability that is situational at best BUT could save your hide 1 out 150 times, ^^

+ on the other hand since the Anniversary Edition "Projectile Dodging now caps at 80%", so this ups the relative usefulness of Take Down by a teeny tiny notch,

Finally "Take Dawn" was also the staple of a "Health Reduction" Bone Charmer build. It was veteran Irma2 who came up with this very strong build for Immortal Throne, not sure if this build still aplies to the Anniversary Edition (EDIT: Mmmh apparently not, I just noticed your above comments sorry ; D):

Thank you for porting the guide here and giving us your insight, botebote77. Now about that part:

Quote
2) When comparing the three skills that give resistance reduction (squall, study prey, and susceptibility), study prey and susceptibility both give absolute resistance reduction and so is better in terms of lowering a resistance as low as possible.. However, squall reduces all resistances including secondary and tertiary resistances.. So squall might be best if you deal many different types of damages

Something is bugging me for quite some time. Say I'm playing a Ranger (Hunting+Nature) and absolutely want to use BOTH Study Prey and Plague (and fully developing their respective synergies). Does the order matter when I cast these debuffs on ennemies?

In other words what is the most efficient way to cast these spells, is it better to cast Study Prey first, or is it better to cast Plague THEN Study Prey?

Same question for Sage (Hunting+ Storm): Study Prey and Squall.

Guides AE / Re: List of LMB skills
« on: 16 January 2018, 12:59:42 »
...This is the part I don't understand. As an extreme example, the Sylvan Nymph. Why would I want to resummon her, wasting energy, possibly losing a Mastery Shrine Ultimate Level pet, every single time she is off cooldown? What if I'm about to fight a boss and expect the current one to die soon? I'm putting myself in a bad position, losing that energy, and starting that cooldown, just because its on a button that I need to use to fight anything.
The Nymph is an extreme example, but the points stand for other skills. You are burning energy and starting cooldowns when you have little to no control over what enemy you're fighting next in any given horde.

Ok! Now I understand what you meant, 1cec0ld. ; D

Obviously my previous post was more about the Melee LMB Skills like "Onslaught, Calculated Strike, Psionic Touch, etc". Like I said you can never go wrong by using these skills cause they’re a solid DPS bonus.

As for the other skills you mentioned (Nymph,...), well I never used them much on LMB quite frankly. I DO use these skills -I’m a sucker for the Sylvan Nymph after all ^^- but I assign them to different shortcuts.

Still! This is a welcome option for those (few?) who absolutely want to use those skills on LMB, I guess.

Good intitiative, botebote77! Now since you've decided to open this thread, maybe we should make you sweat a little more :P:

I think it would be a good idea to add in you guide all the LMB (Left Mouse Button) skills that are granted by Artifacts or Items. Examples:

- Might of Hephaestus

This Artifacts grants a skill called Iron Fist, and depending on your version of Titan Quest, Iron Fist works completely differently:

# Immortal Throne (original version): in this version Might of Hephaestus DOES NOT work at all,

# Immortal Throne + Fanpatch 1.17: the granted skill works very well. This includes Melee and even Spells. This what made this Divine Artifacts so attractive (at least for me). I mean the granted skills proces a lot and you don't need to assign the skill on LBM, it works automatically,

# Anniversary Edition: in this version you are forced to assign the granted skill to your LMB! So it cannot proc with spells anymore (like Eruption, Volcanic Orb). This is somewhat sad but I guess I do understand the idea of the developers behind this nerf: indeed the tooltip of Iron Fist says “builds up the melee power of the player to epic proportions”, so now the skill works as intended (a melee bonus that is). By the way I did not try it with the Ragnarok dlc yet, but since I fell for this awesome Nordic extension you can sure bet I’m going to play it very soon. O0,

Note: now that I think of it, it would be a good idea edit my Avenger Guide about this Might of Hephaestus stuff. EDIT: DONE. ^^

- Marduk's Rage: this lovely sword grants +2 to Onslaught,

- Zaghnal: this axe grants + 7 to Calculated Strike!!! BUT only in the Anniversary Edition! (no bonus to skill in Immortal Throne),

- Orion's Mace: same deal, the mace grants + 6 to Psionic Touch!!! BUT only in the Anniversary Edition,

...

Ok, these have always perplexed me. Obviously the skills that specifically say "set this to your left mouse button" should be there, but how are the rest determined? Are they just the ones that are available? Are all skills able to be bound to LMB but these are the "best"?
In cases where multiple from a mastery can be bound, how does one best choose which is better? what about choosing between standard basic attacks, or these skills? Does it affect how battles work? I don't want to waste a skill like Batter on a trash mob when a Hero is standing right there behind it, but I don't want to dive into a mob just so that Hero is the first thing I attack.\endrant

Hello, 1cec0ld! I'm not sure if I understand your post.^^ Skills that are assignable to LMB are always more beneficial than Basic Attack. The only problem you may face is when you have both Masteries giving you LMB Skills. Example :

The Dreamkiller (Rogue+Dream) can have Calculated Strike or Psionic Touch. Even though those Skills have been reworked for the better in the Anniversary Edition I think what veteran Poinas said about those skills still apply :

"I'd take Calculated Strike over Psionic Touch, if you are a Dreamkiller. The difference is small, so you can pick whichever you like."

Thank you for the welcome Medea. Your insights are very useful. You TQ vets have all been very nice and helpful wherever I come across you guys.

A personal story I'll share relating to TQ:

My best friend of 14 years (who got me into Titan Quest back when it was released) tragically died last Summer. He actually gave me boxed copies of the game, so we could play together. I was pretty clueless about how ARPGs worked back then. That's why I don't really know a lot about TQ other than from memory.

We used to play Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, Borderlands 1 and 2, etc... He was a genius at these games. It's been a rough time of grief. I don't know anyone else who likes these types of games. My friend was the only person I really played any games with.
Very surreal.

So in a sense, I am trying to reach out and meet new gamers to enjoy talking with.

Anyway, with that out of the way, if anyone wants to play Grim Dawn or Titan Quest with me sometime, my Steam name is: Flames Of Origin
I'm on Steam quite often. Anyone is welcome to add me.

Welcome on the boards, friend. ^^

I feel sorry for you loss, really. Sounds like your long-time friend was frigging awesome.

Also good catch on the Borderlands games, these are solid hack'n'slash Shooters. Seriously I could go on all day about Borderlands (1, 2, The Pre-Sequel) , or even make threads/faqs about these kick-ass games (If only I had the time :P).

Oh! And by the way I wish you a genuine Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all, Peeps!  O0

Nice going, MedeaFleecestealer! The blog seems promising. O0

I'm really interested is seeing how Rogue+Rune blend together, maybe this blog will bring out possible Synergies between the 2 Masteries.

Especially considering how Rune, a brand-new Mastery, is relatively undocumented right now.

Godspeed, friend.

Woah, gasconron! I'm so happy to see you back. :)

I can see you still have it. Doing a crazy set of challenges like that takes some talent (and time). +respect for doing it with xMax. ^^

I also like the way you put Classes into perspective: indeed some Classes are better at survival than others.

Anyways! Good luck on your endeavours.

Guides AE / Re: House of Flying Daggers Build
« on: 30 November 2017, 14:36:05 »
Nice thread, botebote77! ;D Just a few questions:

1- In the old version the "Chance to Pass Through Enemies" was 100%, from Skill Level 1. Throwing knives was insanely fun.

Comparatively in AE the Chance to Pass Through Enemies has been now set to 10%! And I'm not even talking about the Energy cost of the synergy, Flurry of of Knives, which has been increased a lot in the new version (cost x3!). This is a notable nerf.

So my question is: how this knive build fares comparatively to Immortal Throne?

2- What's your favourite 2d Mastery for this build?

Note: sorry I didn't notice your great post  earlier. ^^
