Music / Let's list songs which remind us of TQ
« on: 21 November 2019, 12:10:16 »
I saw @botebote77 post about cheesy songs to fit each mastery, I think it's a fun game to play, so I'll list some of my suggestions. I've already put some references in my character showcases, if anyone has noticed. I really like it :>

It can be for a mastery, class, specific build, or whatever you think is related, so let's go

General Discussion / Game display issue (Atlantis)
« on: 25 October 2019, 13:03:58 »
It's a small thing that doesn't even bother me, but out of curiosity I wanted to ask if anyone has been experiencing a similar issue, ever since Atlantis came out:

https://i.imgur.com/IqCO8D5.mp4

I'm using DirectX9 if that matters. Happens randomly but consistenly throughout all acts and the stripes usually flicker for about 1-3 seconds.

desperately tries to avoid cheesy items
fails

One of the forgotten characters I have, because even though the performance is smooth and it has no multiplayer issues, it is kind of uninspired, especially when you look at the items. I liked the idea itself (phys knives), but it's not overly fascinating to play. Alas I'm still sharing it here, alongside the rest. Physical damage comes from 3 sources here: banner, battle rage, rage of ares relic. The basic idea is pretty straightforward: standard  -> blade barrier - > onslaught -> knives;  it is working as intended, but again, it's completely reliant on the most op skill, it just seems like the most efficient way to play warfare (max recharge). I don't want to make it sound like it's all bad, it is strong after all, just not in my favourites, and I wasn't able to switch the items around to at least make it visually look interesting x>
I'm not using traps too often, mostly on really big groups or bosses, it's simply too many things to cast before the real deal starts, I'd rather not waste this time and possibly get shredded.

The only thing you really need with such a build, except for defensive capabilities, is -80% recharge and +4 rogue. Attack speed is desired to charge onslaught faster, but the skill can be omitted completely, one could just get more physical % from items, but let's not forget onslaught also grants some cool debuffs and resistances, so I'd still stay with that. Pet gear for warriors / traps could be a worthwhile investment, but I'd still prefer to keep it a mostly-pure knife thrower. ADCTH could be switched for dot leech, and I believe it would still work beautifully, on both knives and blade barrier.

Performance in 6-players diff: 8/10

plague plague plague

Couldn't possibly call this a challenge, but maybe a nice twist, a restriction, to use only green items. I didn't go through Atlantis, but I'm using 2 items from it - tinkerer's boots and redfist hide. Might be uncommon to go melee with a ranger, but I inteded it as half pets half melee, and yes, it's working as intended, altough it might be 33% pets, 66% spear, in terms of damage output. The Plague+Study Prey combo is unbeatable, now with bonus Earthbind's additional -50% da, too good. Worth mentioning, with this class you only about 10-20% recharge to keep Call of the Hunt permanent.
For future upgrades, I mostly see getting higher stats on the veteran affix for the helmet, better affix(es) on the formicid shield / different tinkerer boots, either one so i still keep some of my lightning res. For skills I could use a few more points in Survival Instinct and the Nymph. Possibly switching the occult ring to 'of immortality'.
Overall I'm very satisfied with the toon, high resists, veery high da, dmg.... can't go wrong with this class, nonetheless it remains a very fun one, that's for sure.

Stonspeaker... issues upon issues. Low health, low energy, low oa and da, no dodge, no avoid. Thankfully damage is not an issue here, unless you decide to go full fire with no reduced res, in which case Muselheim becomes a nightmare to deal with. So, it's only about figuring the best defensive setup, preferably with -energy cost and attack speed, to sustain your hp. I couldn't fit in -recharge unfortunately, but it's not the top requirement - rune skills are already on a relatively low cd.
I tried playing around with mind control (Orpheus Garland), since enemies would still burn while under it, but (not surprisingly) it's not a viable strategy. It fits nicely just on Aphrodite's Favour, as sort of a bonus.
With double Touch of Nyx and the fleece relic, energy cost gets reduced to 0, I already used this strategy on my shaman, and it's really the easiest way to cast this energy-hungry shield.
My offensive ability is barely enabling me to hit reliably, but all in all I'm glad stonespeaker turned out playable in Atlantis, well, thanks to some of the best items I have ^^;

Performance in 6-players diff: 6.5/10 (archers are the biggest issue, but they aren't too bad to deal with using eruption/mine field/fire nova)

Not only was I able to make it a silly character, by making it look like my avatar, but being a harbinger, you can't make it not OP. Warfare with CDR is just too much, not to mention Atlantis' changes. With almost permanent 80% damage absorption, 60<% chance to dodge, warriors with the mastermind buff, useful doppelganger, this one performs beautifully, yes, even with some low resistances and DA, it's not an issue at all.

This is obviously gear-dependent, all of my items here are forged (3 from @Anuchyfilm ), that's also the reason i don't make build guides, since with my toons, I rely too heavily on upgraded items.

I said useful, because even at level 1, doppel's spells (war horn, distort reality, sands of sleep) are useful and provide great CC. It's staff damage is also worth mentioning.

Performance in 6-players diff: 8.5/10
Multiplayer: Doppel is problematic, but it's not an inseparable part of the build; no issues otherwise, good support

High IQ Brigand

Took me forever to decide what to do with this one, I was stuck near end of legendary and no ideas how to build it. Atlantis came around the corner and while farming for the troll's branch I came across this defiled troll helm, and got inspired. I had doubts whether to post it at all, it's certainly not the most amazing of builds, nor strongest; it's barely making it into the 'playable' category, main issue being reflected damage (mostly solved with a swap weapon; elemental chaos still kills) and resistances (rip vit res). Demonskin save the day yet again (bless you @Anuchyfilm )
The Crow managed to not get nerfed for some reason, so hey, I'll take the 55% DA. I should get another copy of (juggernaut's) pelaron shield  when I'm feeling less lazy.

Even though it's a struggle, bombing a group of enemies with poison and watching the mayhem is quite pleasing. In the first video you can see i put marksmanship on my slot bar, I'll throw it randomly to leech energy.
Rogue mastery, with the new skills, has truly become a circus :>

Finally figured out a good setup for prophet, I would call it a bit of a tank mage even. Like most storm characters this is a click-fiesta, but a very fun one, but that's just my preference. The wisp is a bit more useful now, with the new synergy (although i don't have points to max it), I tried using lightning dash too, but there's just too many buttons to click, it's not for this build. It is a bit short on a few skills, but I think it's fine regardless. Freeze is good, especially on large groups, to temporarily disable some of them, like archers, and focus on the rest, as well as getting near to dangerous enemies (black elves) to stun or petrify them before they get a chance to strike. I started using phantom strike too, for some nice occasional leech :>

Evil Tor

Needless to say, but I'll address it anyways: it's a for-fun char, don't expect anything op. Only works with such setup thanks to the upgrades I was able to get, and it's still barely making it with the da and some resists. Another one of those weird ideas, which thankfully turned out good enough to be viable, and works nicely in multiplayer, I had the pleasure of travelling with a dragon hunter, so we were 2 wannabe archers ^^

*Poison res sucks - yes, a big issue, hence it works best with hunters on team. Worst case I can switch the socratis ring to alfheim one.

As much as I dislike melee characters, there is something truly enchanting about nuking enemies into space and getting them stuck like space debris as well as one-shotting jotun. Dps-oriented for sure, so it lacks a tini tiny bit in survivability, makes up for it mostly with permanent standard though. I guess there's not much explaining to do with melee. -80% CDR is what makes it fun for me :>  also the aesthetic

*Bleeding resist sucks so I'm staying away from bleeding dmg on my skills

Nature AE / "Another Stranger Me" - Doppelmaster Summoner
« on: 29 March 2019, 22:08:20 »

There is someone else, another stranger me, another stranger me

To prove once and for all this god-forsaken weapon works with everything, but more importantly to have some fun and make a weird build, here's uhh a pseudo-pet-no-int caster. Equipping doppels with the tooth, big oof. Reworked the setup, works pretty nicely now, but it's still mostly a for-fun toon. Flame surge does a good job at making simulacrum proc, with the other spells it's not a problem to have at least 2 dops up at all times. Heals for days+sanctuary+stone form, it can be quite a lazy, stoned summoner.

Fun facts:
- Doppels don't benefit from jewellery, just like the heroes, but they can use the granted skills from them, such as ensnare in this case, provided it's on LMB/RMB
- Doppels will heal the enemy mobs if they are provided with the spell, same thing LMB/RMB
- Doppels don't benefit from pet gear

*I'd rather not have my main source of dmg idling so I go with 1-2 wolves in case they decide to focus on the same target, wolves are useless in this case
**I haven't done excessive testing with the current setup
***Skill point-hungry and it's not high lvl

Performance in legendary: ~7/10 (killing smoothly but not ultra fast)
Performance in 6-players difficulty: ~6/10 (no bigger survivability issues)

Ahh, trapper characters, it was a love at first sight. Quite well-balanced, perhaps not a ground-breaking build, but a pleasure to play. The gear setup has been shifting a bit since i first made it, so the base str and int are unnecessarily high, the toon doesn't benefit from them, since only traps deal serious damage, and life leech scales with level iirc. So if i took those stats and put into hp, and went to switch Thoth's Glory to one with hp bonus, you can see it would probably be 8000+.

Throwing knives into a group of enemies basically gives 3 sec immortality, so unless I play like a dummy or do weird mod/multiplayer shenanigans, it's pretty tough to get myself killed, given the amount of cc and leech (a bit of trouble with undead / dark elves). Weak mobs can be dealt with with just life leech.

*Using Trace of Convalescence instead of ToW as to not wake up sleeping enemies with the aura
**Traps won't start firing if all the targets in range are asleep
***Used to be a terrible potion-monger, Phantom Strike & Energy leech retaliation fixes that

Performance in legendary: 8.5/10 (quite fast; hard to kill; in mp the enemies might be dead already before I set the traps though)
Performance in 6-players difficulty: 8/10 (the damage can be a wee bit underwhelming at times)

Hi again, I finally decided to give this forum-thingy a try, mostly to share my chars and ideas :p
"Torstein" works, but feel free to refer to me as "Tor".

I started playing TQ around the time AE came out, and after a long break, and the loss of previous save files, I gave Ragnarok a try in June last year, and continued regularly since then. Standing strong at 2000h+ as of right now. This time around I've tried to be more creative with what I'm making, but there are some exceptions to that ^^;
Haven't used any mods for a long time, but rn I can't live without 6-players difficulty (for both leveling and farming/mp) and occasional use of massbosses.

I'm currently partaking in the creation of WNG's Shadow Champions mastery mod, and I'm really looking forward to showing my progress from there as well, once the project is complete :>

I thought I'd pile up my current characters, and give links to the build showcases as I make them. Listed in order in which they were made, but I'll post the builds themselves randomly. So here goes:

"Fight or flight indicates a permanent choice, but flight often means putting off the fight to another day. Choose your battles wisely."

Fight or flight? Perhaps enough focus and reflex to balance it out and stay alive ^^;
The newest addition to the family, a shaman, is not an easy character to play. Potentially one of the most stressful ones I had the chance to try. Yet the unique, risky playstyle, and the required concentration is what made it worthwhile for me.

I separate this toon's style into 2 "modes", let's call them:
1) "Safety First" - keeping energy armor up at all times, hiding behind menhir wall
2) "YOLO" "Thrill-Seeking" - using energy armor only in most dire situations, trying to proc sacred rage as often as possible

The second playstyle wasn't planned since the beginning, only when I saw the synergy between necrosis and frightening power, I decided to use it this way. Even though it's not listed on the skill, frightening power has a cooldown, there seems to be at least a ~4 seconds break before it can proc again. Nonetheless it's a viable strategy.

Performance in legendary: 5/10 (very squishy if not being careful enough)
Performance in 6-players difficulty: ~4/10 (it's not impossible, but probably not a good idea to farm in sp with this one)
Party support ~6.5/10 (maxed energy armor, rune of life, permanent covenant, spirit ward)
