I think I will start overhauling the existing quest rewards for this today.

This means that existing alpha tester characters quest rewards will go POOF. Oh well. I figure sooner of later, everybody is going to hate me anyway, why not today?  >:D

Okay, quest update so far.

Olive branch quest gives +3% elemental resistance in normal, +5% in epic and +7% in legendary.

Skeleton Raider Brothers quest in Megara gives +5% vitality resistance in normal, +7% in epic and +10% in legendary.

Xanthippus staff fetch quest gives +3% poison resistance in normal, +5% in epic and +7% in legendary.

I added tags to teh initial quest dialog in the "reward item text" slot that describes the different values in each difficulty. The final quest journal entry includes a disclaimer describing the rewards for every difficulty since I can't change the journal entry based on difficulty in the quest editor to my knowledge. Just the one global journal entry for all difficulties.

Woohoo, good news indeed. I remember the old site had a guide for "worthwhile" quests. Looking through this list (full disclosure I haven't played  through act 5 yet) I jotted down some where a bonus could make sense. I know this mod already adds a few more skill points, but my thoughts are that multi part quests (hades treasurery, wealth of old kinds etc) should probably get a skill/attribute point as a nice juicy reward. rescuing people could get a small life/heal bonus for being such a nice person. (+5/10 hp or +5/10% hp regen. Very small to avoid opness as a lot of quests could fit in here)
Some that have obvious ties (order of promethean giving fire dmg, maybe cold dmg/res for killing the yeti?)

I put my suggestions in red, trying to space out a bit. Not sure if all this is possible so feel free to disregard, but thought it might give you some good ideas if you decide to go this route.

Act 1
Helos (3)

[ ] Medicines wayland  (life/heal bonus)

Thank you for this mountainblade, helps me keep track.

I have added +5%, 7% and 10% bleeding resistance to the act 4 Create a Diversion quest where you defeat the Melinoe Blood QUeen. (She stil needs some buffing)

Added +3%, 5% and 7% energy leech resistance to Egypt's Beggars Homes quest and removed the yellow ring reward so you still get an arcane formula and the resistance as well.

Ill keep everyone updated as I go.

Oh and mountainblade, what do you mean by "heal bonus" as opposed to flat HP? Like a permanent health regen bonus?

EDIT: Something I've wanted to do for years....instead of taking the staff to the corrupt power hungry high proest in Memphis, why not have an option to take it to the beggar and give it to him? Vive la revolucion! :D

Then when you talk to Zazamankh again he screams and attacks you ha ha!

Then on game load, the old beggar is now standing where Zazamankh was before! ha ha

And you could still do it by giving it to Zazamankh...say getting a intelligence boost, or if the beggar getting a strength boost or something.

the ones i can remenber,

general in repose quest is only to find 3x chest in the cave,like the skeleeton riders in greece, a better chance to drop blues itens will fit.

 wealth of the ancient kings , no need to change since you can get a unique item from the chest

I am afraid giving a enchant bonus like act 5, to master blacksmith would be difficult to implement ,i think, i would say better itens to his shop

A Promethean surrounded quest, could give a chance to get a blue item

Mystery in the mountains , i agree skill point

I think I could replicate the forge quest for the Delphi secret shop. I could just remve the merchant qualities and maybe make a new quest to go get something in act 2 or a new dungeon he gives you a key to.

But it would be a matter of copying the quest that controls the forge quest in act 5, I just have to copy it and change a couple things.

Added 3,5,7% Energy Leech resistance to the Beggar's Homes quest in Memphis.

Added 3,5,7% fire resist to the Lost Brother quest instead of flat skill point.

Gave the skill point to the staff of khufu quest.

added 3,5,7% cold resist to the giant yeti quest

added 3,5,7% lightning resist to the d'ohist mage quest



Question, as I haven't completed many side quests in act 5.

Is there a quest that grants you a choice of racial defense?

According to the quest skill tree in the x2pack, there is supposed to be a whole bunch of racial defense skills as a reward for the cauldron pieces quest. The quest file simply gives you some xp and a crappy staff though.

The quest skills are specifically named xsq24 which is the cauldron quest, named xsq24 in the quest files.


EDIT:
I updated the "surrounded promethian" quest a little. You now receive one unique item from act 2 for each difficulty.

However, I created a giant duneraider assassin miniboss you have to kill first.

I also expanded the little area to give you more room to run away:


The yellow circle is where she used to stand, the red circle is where she is now waaaaaaaayyy back there.

i dont think there was any quest giving a  choice of racial defense.

i will give you a list of act 5 side quests and what rewards gave me.

Festives-xp
Sciron- xp/gold and 2x scrolls
Northen contract-xp and completed artefact

White gold- i gave the ring to womam, it gave me xp and blue item
Heart to Stomach-xp
Golden sickle-xp and blue item

Wine from the Rhine-xp and x25 hp pots
Celtic plaid-xp and yellow item
Trouble son-xp and yellow item

Litle firends-xp and green item
The Kornwft Scythe- xp
Trapped Nixie-xp and 1 skill point

Fir Cone Liquor- didnt get nothing since its connected to main quest
Magic Cauldron-xp and blue staff
The Retless King- xp and yellow item

The survivor-xp and yellow item
Giesel-xp and gold
Dverger History-xp and 2x Skill points

Squabbling Merchants-xp and yellow item
Craftman passion- Lupine necklase formulae and xp
(both side quests are connected)

Legendary craftmanship-xp and you can enchant a blue/purple item

The spectral wolf and Chiron gives 2x atribute points
( i couldnt finish the spectral wolf quest)

If this is all accurate information, the quest journal, you rplaying experience, the quest files...then there are only 6 quest skills in the questskilltree2.dbr. Out of 25.

Mimer's quest grants 10 intelligence which used to take up 3 skill slots, which I consolidated to 1 (MODDERS NOTE: I tested and verified that quest skills ARE affected by +1 to all skills buffs). Then there are 3 skills that are needed for spawning NPCs and summons for 3 different quests.

I removed all the race defense skills form the quest skill tree.

Which frees up 20 slots for other things :)

And I have only used 14 out of 25 in the vanilla quest skill tree as well.

Lots of room now for new quest skills.


I created a MI sword called Ragnarok for Surtr to drop. It has only a level requirement so any class can use it. +2 skills, casts eruption on attack. Sweet :)

I wonder if +3,+5,+7 is too much resistance to give for a quest reward now. Oh well, it is a work in progress. I may edit them as I add new quest rewards.

Better two +2 rewards than one +3.

mhm i dont think +15 bonus resistance ( if you completed the legendary version) will be to strong, since the game is harder :)

well, you only get the bonus resistance if you kill the boss monster i am right ? If the foe is strong the reward will suit the effort

About quests that send you to collect items - lost dowry, chirons bow, staff of khufu etc. What if they are real equippable item and you can choose to keep them instead of returning them to the quest giver? If you leave a certain zone with the item or sell it (if possible) you dont get reward and you fail the quest. An RPG game should give you more choises!

@sauruz I agree, but as I add more quest rewards I will have to be careful to monitor the total resistance value. No worries, just a note to myself.

Not a spear for sure, does he wields it while you fight him (forgot). I think it's a staff, or a melee staff.
Btw, your quest overhaul is inspiring... i think to do something similar for the EG mod. Maybe turn some of the quests rewards to a crafting skill tree. Or a devotion tree like Grim Dawn.

It is true, if there gonna be some quests giving same element bonus , surely will become bit strong. 1 quest boosting each element would be enought, imo. Since there will be relic to fix the elemental issue, Plus the ordnance bonus
