General Discussion / Re: TQ Fans Forum Layout Ideas
« on: 28 March 2019, 05:49:22 »
Hey guys, all suggestions are not ignored and for long time I was thinking to little re-organize it, but some facts should not be ignored:
1. We don't want to go with boards which have child-boards inside child-board, that makes those not visible and searching very difficult even for very experienced SMF members, so if something is not visible, that means completely inactive board.
2. We have Tags system in every topic and Tags page, I have to check permissions again, but that it is supposed to help users to navigate, but it require help from everyone so more relevant tags should lead to important topics. https://titanquestfans.net/index.php?action=tags
3. Anniversary Edition and Immortal Throne have to be separated. More confusion if they will share same space.
4. AE and IT Masteries have to be separated, and also each mastery should be separated with classes displayed so users can easily find everything they need. It was really hard job to find each class name from mastery mods and then to create board (child-board) for each.
5. Kirmiziperfect site with redirect have to stay since its official place to read or download mods and stuff, also our good friend.

Starting with Boards organization:
- There is no need to change how Announcements are organized, 1st is forum info for which I failed to go with regular updates, but that was main idea, and 2nd is important game info which is left to Medea since I'm not involved that much in game related things.
- General, purpose of this board is to be place to discuss about everything related to forum, game, members, some cool stuff, questions and answers. I would not touch much this category.
Titan Quest - Anniversary Edition/Ragnarök, here can be done some changes, I can make it shorter, so under "Anniversary Edition - General discussion" as child-boards can go "Technical Support" and "Lilith map AE" (lilith can go inside Custom maps where can have its own child-board as well),  "Diablo 2 Immortal AE" can be removed. Now about New Projects and Legion of Champions AE, maybe to change place to place LOC to be last on the list since that way it should be easier to notice, but 1 place bellow also means that someone won't see it if not scroll enough to bottom.
 - Anniversary Edition - Mastery Mods - will be renamed to "Anniversary Edition - Masteries" this has the most important role on forum, in combination with Tags any member can easier navigate to find what he is searching for, also for many mods most of us have no clue about mastery classes, so this is there to help. Also discussions about mastery which player is playing should be in main mastery board or in child-boards for each mastery class. Plan is to expand Masteries list when new masteries project became official, when testing phase is finished.
- Titan Quest - Immortal Throne, similar to AE, as child-boards of "Immortal Throne - General discussion" can go " New Projects " and " Technical Support ", bellow Modifications should be "Gameplay", then "Lilith map IT" with new child board "Custom Maps" where users can finally see their options for more maps to play.  "Underlord IT", I believe that is now Soulvizier, was searching for Underlord info but found nothing, so I guess there is nothing about Underlord to find.
- Immortal Throne - Mastery Mods - same as for AE, " Immortal Throne - Masteries".
- Downloads, I'm against removing it since creator of kirmiziperfect site is with us from beginning, he wanted to help community, helped a lot to save all important stuff that was found from old site or content which other members had. It has to be 2x downloads, 1 for AE and 1 for IT with link to his site in description so users can see where they will be redirected, also it is confirmed that his site is safe source to use to download or read stuff.
- Markets of Megara - can be moved as child boards of Gameplay for both IT and AE.
- About offtopic boards bellow, Anniversary child-board should be added for birthdays and similar stuff?

About console versions as you wish guys, we can make however you decide, just think how it should be done and present idea. It can even go between AE and IT, there probably won't be need to go with masteries like it is for AE and IT.

Definitely our #1 problem so far is "mastery mod"="mod", that bring confusion and should be changed to just Masteries or Mastery.
I gave my vision, provided some details what should not be changed and how to keep some things, but to little re-organize forum.
Opinions? Also if possible, @seventh please try to make new image from my post like you did here, see spoiler bellow https://titanquestfans.net/index.php?topic=21.msg10510#msg10510 ,
Spoiler for Hiden:

Hey efko,

Sure, I could try my hand at that again, though could you lay out what you would want on the main page like I did on my list? Currently I'm struggling a bit to have a mental image of what your version of the layout would look like.

Similarly, I'll mark my list in the spoiler tag. But this would be what I need to make a good mock-up. Of course something like this, but with what you think is best.

Cheers.

Don't mess with life drain, it is mostly the same as before.

Spirit can be played as vitality damage mastery with vit damage staves, there are currently 3 in the game. Highest damage one is Praxidikae. You need it to try the whole thing.

I wrote some observations on vitality ternion diviner link. Torstein159 published a video not long ago link.

Vitality diviner is a build that can be considered top but with its staves requirement its heavily gear dependant of course. My diviner did something like 7,5K damage per projectile with deathchill, its 22K point plank. How much hp does legendary Typhon have? I don't remember the exact number, but he is the toughest boss in the game along wtih Hydra, and he died in 8 hits. Most bosses do not have that much and die is 3-5. Its like you come to the place, cast dark covenant, drop circle of power, hit-hit-hit its over. Liche is not needed there as he will always be too late. Maybe with mods like massboss he won't.

Constructs are immune to vitality damage and you should consider having another type to deal with them.

I see. That's awesome actually, I'll check the builds and see if they fit with the thematic I'm trying to achieve. Thanks for the response!

Good point botebote77.  Not sure how far we want to go with the console side of things.  Not against it by any means, but do we just limit it to discussions only or are we going to get into guides, builds, etc for those as well?  Since I don't use consoles I've no idea how different such things may be for those.

Oh, my bad!

The Child Boards sections weren't elaborate on both text and visual mockups since I just focused on the big categories and how it would affect "first glance" visibility. I just thought we would try to preserve the division as much as possible within the child boards, but merging the "overarching categories".

But I think your suggested changes are perfect.

I don't think having both Mod Masteries AE and Mod Masteries IT in the main page will increase "clutter" by any.
In fact, I do believe having both be called "Mod Masteries XX" adds to the feeling of nicely ordered content.

So in short I 100% agree the child boards should or could be divided into AE and IT. I was thinking of merging them, but however you think is best, I'm no moderator after all, I'm just doing it purely from the point of a user-friendly maximization, I would say.

Oh and for the New Projects seems like I forgot to divide the image-mockup, but I do agree that they should be separate! (I separated them in the text version of the proposal)

Thanks for the input! :D

Problem with that is you've lost nearly everything to do with TQIT. The reason we separated everything in the first place was because people often don't label a particular guide, build, etc, as being for AE or IT.

Hey Medea!

Could you elaborate on what part was lost? I was careful to preserve most sections except the divided General Discussion, which I believe will encourage more conversation as it'll feel like "THE Main Hub".
Even if it's a post clarifying if it's AE or IT, people coming back to post is nice--and even then it would only be for GD. For masteries, which is often required to be very specific due to different balancing, the topics are still divided.

Within the mods section it would be divided as well, it's just together from the outside, so it's faster to find the community creation category if someone is looking for information about Diablo II Immortal, for instance.

And I do have the feeling that I would value easy of use and clarity over people not labeling their question, if I had to compare the two directly as pro and con. I think getting people to feel more encouraged to post is worth the occasional confusion between versions.

I do see where you're coming from, however. Just mentioning why I moved things that way in the proposal!

Cheers for the feedback. :D

General Discussion / Re: anyway to change character name

I do remember it still being able to edit names, gold, etc, just not the advanced stuff like modifications. :(
Hope Soulseekor does get to it, but oh well, GD is more of a priority.

Maybe with either TQDefiler or GDDefiler.

Second this, TQDefiler is an incredibly useful tool, and it's really easy to use.
Not sure if it was updated for AE, but there's even a modification list to make the game more fun with QoL changes and whatnot.

+1 to your suggestions Seventh, much more coherent and user friendly. We've also needed a title to be added for awhile too
+2. Having many unnecessary sections on display makes the forum hard to browse.

Thanks guys! Glad you guys like it!

Heyo, so I was looking at the forum layout, and I really wanted to propose a new layout that in my opinion will help:

1. Direct new users faster to their desired location
2. Make the forum front page much more concise, making it less intimidating
3. Divide the sections by what a new user will be looking for.

By making the main forum page more concise, a new user would be able to see most sections without even scrolling, making everything clearer and more accessible!
The "Child Boards" part will help players that are looking for more specific things of course, and I think we should preserve all the sub sections (and preserve all main sections--those that are not listed are under their respective categories/main sections)

This is my proposal: (Everything in Bold will be what the user sees upon first glance, basically.)

This was probably discussed somewhere before, but I'm getting back into the game and was wondering what happens now with Spirit Mastery.

Has the Life Drain tree gained renewed purpose? Also that new Spirit totem thingy looks goddang amazing. Always wanted a dismembered pterodactyl skeleton to help me zap bad people.

I'm thinking of going sort of a high-mountain shaman (as opposed to voodoo shaman or elemental shaman I believe). Using life-drain, perhaps ternion, rune mastery's aoe damage, and Lich King as support.

Might also just go Nature+Spirit though, that's also very shaman-ish, though that will feel very witch doctor-ish, but I love that as well.

Yeah, of course we're still around - where else would we be (well, okay maybe hanging out over on the GD forum  ;))?  And yes, you're remembered too.

Sadly not much was able to be saved from the old forum except for guides, etc, which are on the kirmiziperfect website. There are a few new journals being written though.

Hey Medea! :D

Dang. Oh well, moving on is part of life.
Also I think I might move onto GD then, it's just that I like the epic adventure world trottig aspect of TQ a lot more. But the new GD holy themed mastery looks really cool.

But before that I'll derp around more in Ragnarok. I've been wanting to make a Spirit Rune Mastery combo and see how that goes. :D

Not moving on, just expanding out a bit, given the connections between the two games.  We're still here as well. Forgotten Gods is releasing next week so it's going to be a crazy time on the forum there.  Shame I'm on holiday and will miss it.

True, that's a great way to put it :)
And hah, I'm the complete opposite, only being able to play more games and relax thanks to spring break. When uni gets going again next week it's back to studying.
Now, time to head over to the Masteries section and see if there are any people discussing stuff :D

Hello seventh. There are still people writing about their progress, off topic stories as well.
If you are interested you can become TQfans journalist?    ^-^

Hey there!
Haha, sounds awesome but I wish I had more time in my hands. 24 hours a day is certainly not enough!
Gonna definitely check the journals out though!

New Members Introduction / Hello :D

Hey there folks,

Nothing much to say except Titan Quest is love and life. I would love to think that some of the regulars from the old titanquest.net remember me but I'll suffice with the fact that I remember them and the good times I had discussing TQIT with those awesome people.
Man I still remember when there were a good couple people writing stories of their adventures in the Writing section. Are those still somewhere? I would also love to look at what I wrote these couple years ago. It's been quite a while.

I remember coming back to this forum, but life really pulled me away from videogames in general. But every now and then I'll hum the TQ main theme (which I dearly miss with the new Ragnarok main screen). I just love it.

Anyways, I'm just looking for conversation and secretly hoping some of the old regulars are still around. ♥ Big love to anyone reading this.
