Titan Quest: Oakfall (Editor progress)

Hello!

I have been a TQ fan ever since it was released, played it way to little in the past few years.
Just recently started to try world modelling in various programs such as UE4, but have since long wanted to make a map for TQ.

So i started using this surprisingly easy and powerful editor yesterday.
Keep in mind that this is most likely not something that will be released, its more a learn-how-to map for me, and obviously its a WIP, and knowing there are some great modders and map builders in these forums, im looking for some tips and tricks, how do walk from a level to the underground?
General work flow you should keep in mind when creating a world..etc

This editor is a lot of fun, and i hope more people will take interest in it.

Hey Buri welcome to the forums  :)

Great to see your progress and that you are delving into the TQ editor - keep at it!  For traversing from overground to underground you need to place and link two portal entrances.  The first you've already done with that latest screenshot of the tomb entrance.  Now you only have to create the dungeon itself and add the opposite portal.  To do this:

a) In the Editor switch to Layout Mode and click Region > Add New Grid > then click on Source > Maps and add a name for easy reference.
b) Click on your new dungeon grid and enter Editor Mode, then click on the Grid Icon which is on the top tool bar next to the Door Icon.
c) Now under 'System' you can select a dungeon tileset from the list, for example try greece\athenscatacomb01
d) Add your floors and walls to the grid followed by an entrance feature in the Feature List
e) Once this is done click on the Door Icon, you'll see the entrance portal highlight (usually yellow).  Click the ellipsis then click on the highlighted yellow space - you should see a number code appear.  Now switch to your Terrain map where the other 'above ground' portal entrance is and do the same process using the second ellipsis.  So you should end up with two number codes.  Now hit Link.

That's basically how to link portal entrances... but there are some things to note.  Firstly, if you get an 'Invalid Link Error' message, just save your current work, exit and reopen the Editor.  When you try to link things up now it should work fine.
Secondly, some portal entrances don't match correctly with others.  It usually depends on which tilesets you're trying to link. Generally its best to use the matching sets, such as Greek tomb entrance to Greek grid tileset, but even then sometimes it just won't link.  So you have to play around to find one that links correctly.

Hope this helps  8)

We will see, just need to learn the proportion of world building, areas are at the moment a bit to small for any AoE action, but you learn by doing right :)?
Thanks very much, ill keep at it

Hey Buri welcome to the forums  :) etc etc etc

Hi
Thanks very much, i admire your work with the Hamunaptra.
Ooh yeah, i fiddle around with that portal menu (among almost everything else) but really didnt understand it nor put more weight into it, i will do some trial and error tonight.
Another question, do it have to be an underground/Dungeon area, i cant just do a portal link to another map i build somewhere else?

IŽll keep at it and play around some more, this Editor is great...Albeit there is several things i would want to change such as different method of adding texture layers and paint layers...its just time consuming and annoying atm..
Thanks for the help :)

Tried some Portal linking

Keep getting "Invalid region reference", tried to use same portal asset on both Map level and within the underground level, still no change :/
If portals are on the same map (Same level) they link just fine.

Am i missing something?

Try placing your portals, exit the Editor (with saving of course), then try again.

UPDATED:::

Some progress for today

Any input on these :) ?

PS:Sorry for the blurry low res image, its directly from the editor

Spoiler for Hiden:

Some more wilderness tile building
Spoiler for Hiden:

Trying some mountain with some deep gorges and overpasses....highly annoying to build, no wonder Iron Lore used so many filler stones for both the ground, and weird clipping

Great effort with that mountain cliff section, you could add some height fog there as well to give the player more of a 'being up high' feeling.
Once you have spent enough time with the Editor and its tools what are your plans Buri? Curious to see what your future project(s) will be  8)

Is there an possibility to open the original Titan Quest map so it can be modified?

Yes I believe there is but I've never done it so am not sure sorry

Thanks, it do look great in game, and great minds think alike, i added a fog layer just after the screenshot, it looked great :), but decided that will be a showcase when the zone is "done"

Well, no plans, just build and learn, i had some ideas..but that all comes down to if i can open/edit/copy the original gameworld
So hopefully i can showcase something when i get the ropes of the Editor, a lot to learn :)

I scrapped the entire map, took what i learned with different bioms, camera angles, theme sets etc etc
Learn by doing i suppose.

So started a new today, this will be the start area, or something

Spoiler for Hiden:

Updated area and a completely new idea on how the starting world will look like, I thinking more of an Forest/Undead land combination, when sometimes they dont exclude eachother...and not as dark as always swamps....maybe im overdoing it? haha...but this is more for me than for the internet ;)
