Hunting AE / Re: Gouge - still useless?
« on: 25 November 2019, 23:30:06 »
So to recap, Gouge now does about 100-150% more damage than it did in TQ:IT.

Its animation is still slower than a regular attack, so for this reason, it's probably still not worth spending any points in except with builds that focus on bleeding damage.
..with build that focus on bleeding dmg build with auto attacks by bow/spear...

Ooof... that really narrows down the number of viable builds for Gouge!

Storm AE / What build makes the best Ice Sharder?
« on: 21 November 2019, 12:04:52 »
What experience do you have with ice sharders?

I'm currently running a Thunderer (Rune) and Paladin (Defence) though I'm still only in Normal for both. So far, the Thunderer feels like a pure Stormcaller with rocks - none of the Rune skills I've tried seem to mesh well with Storm. The Paladin is doing well, but I'm not sure if shard damage will scale well into Legendary.

What build do you think makes the most effective ice sharder? Tell us your experience!

Yes, you do have some serious issues. So just before I start posting about Ice Sharders...

Warfare

Storm

Can't think of anything for Nature, Rogue or Rune atm...

I just tested throwing weapons and Gouge and nope, no bleeding damage. Works fine with spears as intended though.

I always thought that Gouge was just another proc like Volley or Pulverize; allowing two procs to happen at once brings up issues with animations and damage spikes.

If Gouge has a 20% chance to stack with any other proc that was going off then it would certainly be worth investing in no matter how little damage it does.

A quick look at the front page here shows that most of the activity is by experienced players and/or modders. I could imagine that casual players may like they're in over their heads due to the "advanced" level of conversation here.

Likewise, if I Google a TQ related question, I'd end up on Steam more often than not. That place is full of newbie questions and guides.

So more newbie material. That's what I think this forum needs.

How can we add more newbie material? Between us, I think we can easily take turns to create one "interesting" topic per day. Things like:
- What build makes the best Ice Sharder?
- Is Conquerer, Warden or Haruspex the tankiest?
- Is a pet build viable in Legendary?

The quality of the answers doesn't have to be definitive; it just has to be interesting:
- I haven't tried it, but looking at the stats, Nature seems to support Ice Shards really well.
- I've only tried the Conqueror and it smashed through mobs like a freight train.
- My petmancer had a hard time in normal but things got easier in Epic. I think it might be better still in Legendary.

The goal isn't to seek answers for ourselves, but to create an interesting discussion that all levels of experience can participate in. Keywords like "best", "DPS", "tankiest" and "beginner-friendly" would be great for attracting people via search engines.

Just some ideas... I'm happy to post first if anyone else thinks this is a good idea. :)

Hunting AE / Gouge - still useless?
« on: 20 November 2019, 10:40:50 »
Back in the TQ:IT days, having points in Gouge resulted in a net DPS loss as its animation was slower than a regular attack and the added Bleeding damage was negligible.

I know that the damage has been increased by 50% since TQ:IT but that alone might not be enough to make it useful. Have their been any other changes that would make Gouge actually useful?

Wow, has it been 11 years already? Welcome back to the game!

If you have Ragnarok, there's a new mastery available for some new build that weren't available back then. I hear Rune+Earth and Rune+Hunting are particularly good. :)

Another vote for Nature. The pets hold the enemies in place, you nuke em with your slow but hard hitting spells. Regrowth, HOTO, Plague and Refresh are all useful in their own right.

Good to see another familiar name! You might not remember me as I wasn't all that active, but I definitely remember you from titanquest.net. Welcome back!

If a skill has "weapon" in its description, then it would be treated as a weapon attack. It will use your weapon's base damage and receive all the bonuses listed on your weapon.

Example: If you were using the Quicksilver Bludgeon, then 20.0% chance of +208% Physical Damage, 7.0% Chance of +163% Fire Damage and 10 - 18 Fire Damage would all apply to your Thunder Strike.

If the skill does not have weapon in its description, then weapon base damage is irrelevant. The only weapon modifiers that would affect the skill are global ones e.g. +xx% Physical Damage.

In your case, your Veteran's Crescent Blade of Destruction has several +xx% Physical Damage modifiers that would affect Eruption's damage. However, the 4 bonus damage would not apply. Neither would any of the bonuses on the Quicksilver Bludgeon.

Thunder Strike should do mostly weapon damage with some lightning damage on top. That's probably why you're seeing mainly white numbers.

icefreeze to the rescue! Thanks for the link - I just tried it and so far it works like a charm.

@botebote77
Apparently XMAX+ was made for a group of friends who wanted to kill lots of monsters but not level up too fast. The author bundled it together with his other releases advising people not to bother with it, but somehow it became popular.
