very nice  but i don't mean hybrid.. just to clear that up.. hybrid is hard for self-found toons.. i mean spear + low quality green shield socketed with something.. spears require low strength and high dex so your stats will be mainly dex and int with int being the higher one.. i recommend you farm for phorkos trident when you get to epic it's nice for a change.. if you play it the same old all int with staff, it will end up as just the same old glassy character

then you can do it what do you get with a staff anyway? just use staff if you play ternion.. maybe if you have very good staff like heka staff, it's good for a spellcaster.. but that's very hard to find.. usually you can get more from one hand weapon + shield than a staff.. and it's easier to find

it doesn't matter.. you only need an epic relic/charm in epic difficulty, and same for legendary.. those will drop even if you don't farm for them but yeah for a first time player, nothing beats enjoying the game first and only learning bit by bit.. so choose what you want first and if it doesn't work, then we can help

it's not popular but hunting is actually a good support mastery for casters.. check flush out if it already reduces elem resists.. i used to like phorkos trident + santas shield.. iirc there is still no santas shield in the original but even a low quality shield socketed with high quality charm or relic can be good.. at least you can get resists.. but the big reason is to be able to benefit from wood lore DA

i haven't played in a while but I've always played casters.. this is what i remember:
DA was still very good in the original and even in TQIT.. 1k DA with some chance to avoid projectiles and you can make any character tanky, even casters.. of course you also need resists and HP
in the original, and also IT, the strength of casters rely on no cooldown cap.. if you manage to get 100% CDR, you're very good even if your a glass cannon.. mobs won't even get to you
now in AE, there is a cooldown cap.. the change is casters can now get tanky with the mechanic physical damage from spells now scales with str

why not both? my bonecharmer uses thrown + shield, then bow on secondary
edit: and I'm sure you know the reason.. like it's just suicide getting close to 3 Typhon.. things like that

By the way, if it rolls ADCTH, I suppose it should affect all weapon attacks, not just shield attacks, right?
i tested this long time ago with bloodthirst of the glutton.. as i remember, no it doesn't.. it only procs on defense shield attacks.. and by this mechanic i assume it's the same for of the betrayer but it's been so long already and my memory is bad so i could be wrong edit: should be easy to test with bloodthirst of the glutton though

There is no portal but you have a rebirth place in the village.
right.. forgot about that Its all good except there are no good shields of the Restless King, like all MI shields in Ragnarok, they drop with weapon affixes only. Those in your images too. But perhaps you can get a veteran's dvergr item.
something like "of alacrity", "of havoc", "tyrant's" would be worth it.. you can always get resists from jewelries instead
