Guides AE / Build Tier List for AE:RA
« on: 26 November 2020, 01:09:16 »
(Moved from TQ AE - General Discussion)

This is a place for people to share a build tier list for AE:RA.

The tiers are follows:
- S Tier (God Tier): the character is unkillable while having very good damage
- A Tier: damage is very good but has some weaknesses in survivability, or very tanky but not very good damage, or both are good but not S tier level
- B Tier: both damage and survivability are not great. Usually looks cool though :)
- C Tier: it would be cool if it worked, but it doesn't. You can have fun with it in Normal/early Epic though :)

Below are the builds that I've used:

S Tier (God Tier)
- Strength-based, super tanky caster (Summoner: Earth + Nature) build:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1484695249
- Throwing Weapon and Shield, Strength-based Skinchanger (Rune + Nature) build:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2292461703

It's not a coincidence that I completed the Yellows Only Hardcore Challenge with these two builds.

A Tier
- Physical/piercing damage-oriented, spear dragon hunter (Hunting + Rune) build:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1391778605
This build has excellent damage (one-shot many bosses), but can die to damage reflection or strong ranged monsters.
- Plague + Lightning Bolt Druid (Storm + Nature) build:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2298426897
Both damage and survivability are good, but I think below that of the S Tier.

B Tier
- "Elemental Archer" Stonespeaker (Earth + Rune) build, using bow only, dealing fire/elemental damage:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1814921077
- "Fireball Fire Mage" Conjurer (Fire + Spirit) build focusing on fireball attack (fire-damage staff with Ternion attack):
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1454079424
- "Fire spear" Physical/piercing damage-oriented, spear avenger (Hunting + Earth) build:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1360093840

C Tier
- "Battle Mage" Int-based Stonespeaker (Earth + Rune) using sword and shield: doesn't work because with mage gears, it's impossible to survive at melee range. My character for this build is stuck at Atlantis/Act 4 Epic.

I've also tried a standard Fire mage build with Nature and an Ice Shard build (who hasn't :) ) with Nature in the past, but I was noob at that point so didn't want to rate them.

Look forwards to your list!

My new favourite :) The idea is to achieve 80% cooldown reduction limit to cast Plague and Lightning Bolt only.
This is not something new to TQ old fans but might be of interest to newer players.

Current gear list:

Weapon: Geras' Walking Stick: +attributes +resistances (a lot)
Head: Golden Agris Helmet: +1 skills, -recharge, +damage, +resistance
Chess: Vestment of the Overlord: +2 skills, +attributes, + resistances, +DA
Arms: Archmage's Clasp: -recharge, +attributes
Legs: Boot of Freyja: -recharge, +damage, +resistances (a lot), +DA
Amulet: Torc of the Ancestors: +1 skills, +damage, +resistances (a lot), +DA
Artifact: Tongue of Flame (lesser artifact, very easy to get): +damage, +attributes, +resistance
Rings: there are no great rings unfortunately so I'm just filling in what's missing: 1 green ring (Socrates's ring of Immortality with Demon's blood enchant) and 1 Apollo's Will ring (purely for its pierce/poison resistances and +attributes)

This gives my character:

10k+ HP
1k+ Int
Cooldown Reduction: 80% (max)
Resistances: 80% fire, 50% cold, 80% lightning, 80% pierce, 70% vitality, 60% poison, 12% bleeding, 20% physical, 80% stun
All skills: +4

Guides AE / Elemental Archer Stonespeaker (Earth + Rune) Build
« on: 26 July 2019, 00:28:36 »
My new build :)

Introduction
This is a guide on the Stonespeaker (Earth + Rune) build for Titan Quest AE: Ragnarok (Atlantis) that uses bow only, dealing fire/elemental damage.

Why Earth + Rune for an elemental archer build:
  • Rune has Rune Weapon tree and Rune Word: Explode tree that boost Fire/Elemental damage
  • Rune has Thunder Strike tree that boosts damage and provides CC
  • Earth has Earth Enchantment and Volatility that boost fire damage
  • Earth and Rune has good defensive skills that allows the toon to minimize kiting. This would also help boosting damage thanks to Rune Weapon.

Pros:
  • Good survivability compared to other caster/archer builds
  • Good CC
  • Decent at both single target and AoE

Cons:
  • Short buffs that require frequent refresh
  • The best weapon (Bramblewood bow) is in Act 4, no better weapon in Act 5
  • Not the fastest boss killer

Challenges (all versions of the game) / The One-Shot Challenge
« on: 06 February 2019, 01:30:02 »
Hi all,

I propose a new challenge: The One-Shot Challenge! :)

The rules are simple:
- One-shot as many bosses as possible
- One-shot means you only hit them exactly once, although you can cast as many buffs/debuffs/scroll as you want.
- For bosses with multiple forms (e.g. Hades, Loki, Surtr) it's one shot per form.
- For simplicity, only end-of-act and special bosses are counted, that is:
 - Act 1: Minotaur Lord, Telkin 1, Talos, Hydra
 - Act 2: Telkin 2, Manticore
 - Act 3: Telkin 3, Typhon, Dragon Liche
 - Act 4: Hades
 - Act 5: Loki, Surtr, Fafnir
- Screenshots of boss kills required with the 2nd page showing Greatest Damage Dealt, and with description of gears and buffs/debuffs/scrolls and shot/skill used

Join in! :)

Leaderboard as of 06.02.19
Difficulty color code:
Red: 8+ bosses one-shot
Green: 4+
Blue: 1 - 3

Guides AE / Super Tanky Caster (Summoner) Build
« on: 18 October 2018, 02:31:42 »
Hello,

This is my new build, a super tanky caster (summoner):
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1484695249

A short snippet:

Introduction
This is a guide on a strength-based, tanky caster (summoner: Earth + Nature) build. My goal is to build a super tanky caster and I had a lot of fun playing this class.

Why Nature and Earth for a super tanky caster build:
  • Nature provides Heart of Oak skill tree which provides 85% health increase and 31% elemental resistance
  • Nature has Plague, one the best debuffs in the game
  • Earth has strong spells that do physical damages (Eruption and Volcanic Orb) which can be boosted by Strength and +% Physical damage, which means we can use Hale gears (+% Health and +% Strength) and other Strength-based gears that makes the character more tanky
  • Earth has skills that boost physical damages, and Nature has Wolves which can boost physical damage that works well with the above Earth spells

Pros:
  • Super tanky: easily get 20k+ HP and good resistances while having a very good debuff
  • Very good AoE

Cons:
  • Not the fastest boss killer

Guides AE / Resistance requirement for Act 5 bosses
« on: 27 July 2018, 21:02:00 »
Doesn't seem we have a resistance requirement guide for Act 5 bosses yet, so I'm starting one and hope you can help to complete it.

  • Porcus: cold/poison/pierce(?)
  • Fafnir: poison. He also has a strong vitality attack but he won't use it if you stay in melee range.
  • Golden Boar: bleeding
  • Fungoid king: sleep
  • Asgard gods: vitality/physical/pierce/elemental
  • Thrym: cold/freeze
  • Mimer: lightning/vitality
  • Nidhoggr: poison/fire
  • Loki: elemental/vitality
  • Surtr: fire/physical

Honorable mention (non-boss):
  • Troll mage: bleeding

Guides AE / Fireball-oriented Fire Mage Build
« on: 27 July 2018, 00:59:51 »
Please see Steam link:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1454079424

Below is a short snippet:

Introduction
This is a guide on the Conjurer (Fire + Spirit) build focusing on fireball attack (fire-damage staff with Ternion attack skill). I like fire mage and I like this style because it is more fun, it fits more to the fire mage fantasy (I think) and it's strong, compared to some other styles such as Eruption or Volcanic Orb oriented.

Pros:
  • Staff with Ternion attack scales well, better than spells. The reason is that a spell damage only scales with int and +% elemental damage while staff with Ternion attack scales with the staff as well. You can also enchant staff for debuffs (especially to reduce resistances) etc
  • Very good AOE while still good at killing bosses
  • Relatively tanky, compared to other mage builds. No need to kite melees.
  • Two life-saver skills: Death Ward and Stone Form.

Cons:
  • Difficult to have a balanced fixed gear set -- need to swap gears depending on the zone / boss
  • Not the fastest boss killer

Farming Runs / Blacksteel gears farming
« on: 28 April 2018, 21:33:03 »
I did quite a lot of farming for blacksteel gears, and I recorded the statistics of some of the runs. Here they are, in case someone might find it useful:

Where: Land-End ground floor (Act 5)
Runs: 100 runs (restarted the game after every 10 runs)
Fire giant kills: around 20 per run, or around 2k in total
Blacksteel gears received: 29 items: 7 spears, 7 swords, 4 shields, 2 head, 3 chest, 4 arms, 2 legs. The differences between the number of items for different slots are probably due to the small sample size though, and it's more reasonable to assume the same drop rate for each of them. Thus:
Average drop: around 1 drop per 3-4 runs, or around 1 drop per 60-70 fire giant kills
Average drop for a specific item (e.g. spear): around 1 spear per 20-30 runs, or around 1 spear per 400-500 fire giant kills

Spear Avenger Build
Physical/piercing damage-oriented, spear avenger (Hunting + Earth) build for Titan Quest AE: Ragnarok.
---

Introduction

This is a guide on Spear Avenger (Hunting + Earth). This is my favourite class as it’s a well-rounded character with a cool fiery spear attack visual :) This focuses on physical/piercing damage, Hunting (spear) is the main mastery, and Earth skills are used to increase physical damage and bolster defense.

Pros:
  • Well-rounded character with good offense and defense
  • Very good at killing bosses
  • Cool attack visual (fiery spear)

Cons:
  • Mediocre AOE. This, however, can be mitigated by using a Scroll of the Behemoth when you want good AOE.

Attribute Distribution

Like most spear builds, the recommended attribute distribution is roughly 1:1 for Strength and Dexterity, but more on Dexterity. I basically split 1:1 until around level 60, then dump all points into Dexterity after that. If you don’t get any Energy from gears, it might be a good idea to spend a few points on Energy too.

Skill Distribution

Hunting:
  • Take Down tree: full. Good offense and charge skill. Eviscerate is not important though and can be left for last.
  • Art of the Hunt tree: full. Good offense and defense buffs
  • Call of the Hunt tree: full. Good offense cooldown
  • Study Prey tree: full. Good debuff
  • Wood Lore: full. Good offense and defense buff
  • Herbal Remedy: full. Good defense buff (add 100% Poison Resistance at level 10)
  • Volley: full. Good offense skill
  • Gouge: full. Decent offense skill. This is not important and can be left for last.

Earth:
  • Earth Enchantment tree: 1 point in Earth Enchantment, full on Brimstone and Stone Skin. Good offense (physical) and defense (Fire resistance) buffs.
  • Volatility: full. Good offense (physical) buff.
  • Heat Shield: full. Good defense buff (fire and physical resistance).
  • Stone Form: 1 point. Very good defense cooldown.

You should get all important skills at around level 60, and all of the above before level 70.

Late Game Set-Up

For late game (Act 5 Legendary), this is what you should aim for (and you can achieve) in terms of set-up:

All skills: +4

Offense:
  • Offensive Ability: 1.2k
  • DPS without Cooldowns: 6k.
This means DPS with Cooldowns (Call of the Hunt and Scroll of the Primal Chaos) would be 18k or more. And note that Volatility also gives 33% chance of 123% increase in Physical damage.

Defense:
  • Health: 5k
  • Defensive Ability: 1.7k. This level of DA gives good protection vs melee.
  • Resistance for Fire/Cold/Lightning/Pierce/Vitality/Poison/Stun: around 50% or more. You should have 80% resistance for Fire and Poison resistance thanks to Stone Skin and Herbal Remedy.
  • Bleeding Resistance: probably do not leave it at -100% but doesn’t need to be high. My character has -35% and it was fine for Act 5 Legendary. Just use Stone Form if you got a strong bleeding attack (which is rare).
  • Physical Resistance: Heat Shield already gives you 15%. Just remember to refresh it.
  • Change to avoid projectile: You already have 35% from Find Cover skill.
  • Attack damage converted to Health: around 15%. This considerably increases the survivability of your character.

End-Game Set-Up

For end-game, you can increase some stats (e.g. Offensive Ability, DPS, Defensive Ability) further. This is what I have at level 75:
  • Offensive Ability: 1.35k
  • DPS without Cooldowns: 8.5k
This means DPS with Cooldowns (Call of the Hunt and Scroll of the Primal Chaos) would be 23k or more. And note that Volatility also gives 33% chance of ~120% increase in Physical damage.
  • Defensive Ability: 2k. This level of DA makes you immune or near immune to most melee attack.
The only downside (compared to my late-game set-up) is +3/+4 on skills (not +4 to all), but this is still much better overall.

Late Game Gears

Get a mix of legendaries and green gears (with relics/charms) to achieve the above offense/defense target. The exact gears depend on what you can get, but some tips are:
  • Arms slot: Stonebinder’s Cuffs for the +3 skills and elemental resistances. This can be farmed from the Gorgon Queens/Heroes.
  • Head slot: a good one is a green one with Hallowed prefix which gives +1 to all skills and 50+% vitality resistance. This can be farmed from the shops.
  • Weapon slot: A good green spear is one with Devouring suffix (gives Attack damage converted to Health) and some good prefix such as Veteran's (+Physical Damage, +Offensive Ability, +Speed). This can then be enchanted with the Achilles relic to boost damage further. Or you can get a green spear with good damage-type prefix and suffix, then enchant it with the Anubis' Wrath relic to get the Attack damage converted to Health effect. Just farm the shops until you get a good green spear.
  • Artifact: Symbol of the Polymath is a good one, and should be quite easy to get.
  • Scroll: Probably the best scroll for single-target is the Scroll of the Primal Chaos, and best scroll for AOE is the Scroll of the Behemoth.

End-Game Gears

At end-game, you aim for best-in-slot gears given the target set-up. This is what I use at level 75:

Farming Spots

Best farming spots are:
  • Gorgon Queens and cave (Act 1): for Stonebinder’s Cuffs and Epic/Legendary Spears
  • Hydra (Act 1): for Legendary items and relics
  • Fafnir (Act 5): for Legendary items and relics
  • Land-End ground floor (Act 5): for the Blacksteel Spike. On average it takes around 20-30 runs, or around 400-500 fire giant kills to get one Blacksteel Spike. It took me a few hundreds runs to get a Blacksteel Spike with Devouring suffix.

Tactics

The tactics are quite simple:
  • Vs mobs: Cast Study Prey, then wait for melee to come in and kill them, then cast Study Prey on ranged, rush in (Take down) and kill them. If you want fast clearing, use Scroll of the Behemoth and/or Call of the Hunt. It usually takes 1 - 2 hits to kill a target.
  • Vs bosses: Use Call of the Hunt and Scroll of the Primal Chaos, cast Study Prey, rush in. It usually takes less than 10 seconds to kill a boss.
  • Use Stone Form if health is low or to avoid a big incoming damage.
