The scale looks weird? Like a illusion
I think it because the position of shadow lighting of each scale. Looks the texture file only doesn't feel strange, but when look it cover on model will make that odd looks.
If the shadow lightning of scale at the top-center of each scale and doesn't too clearly visible will make it looks less weirds.
