Titan Quest Anniversary Edition crashes
« on: 05 July 2020, 10:19:10 »
Hello all,

I've been playing TQAE for about a year and from time to time the game crashes. Every time something different happens:
1) I get BSoD with 2-3 different "STOP CODE".
2) The game quits to desktop without any message or error.
3) The game freezes and nothing happens. If I click somewhere on the screen, then the message "TQ.exe has stopped working" appears and I can either close the game or wait for the game to respond which won't happen.

Sometimes I play a couple of hours and nothing happens. Sometimes the game crashed at least once in a hour. Every time it is different and it is very annoying especially when the rebirth fountain was far away.

My computer is running Windows 10 Pro. My configuration is: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB.

Windows is updated. I've also the latest drivers of the video card.

Did anyone have the same issues and managed to solve them?

edit: DirectX 12

Is there any option in game to catch logs/text file with logs - question for everyone? Have you tried to check Windows error logs?
I would kill for your computer  8)

2 and 3 is usually Windows related.

Sometimes i have 2) game crash into desktop, from time to time ( rarely tho).

Some areas ingame have poor performance , like Atlantis and some of ragnarok, causing the game crash duo of the game isnt that fast to read so many files at once, as Nordic did on last xpacs.

Plus if you are playing with some mods, they might cause some problems if they are bad placed/instal or not updated...

I'm running clean TQAE v2.9 and I'm not using any mods.

I suppose the problems are related to Windows but even one of my best friends is shocked with the issues I have and he's sys admin :D

I had the issue " The game quits to desktop without any message or error" also when playing DOTA 2 but it was long time ago. Maybe I have to try playing DOTA 2 again and see if the problem will occur.

I'm running 2.9, and it never crash. My video card also sucks (integrated Intel HD 4600). So, playing in DX9 mode... :)

This happens to me as in the bug report I did here:
https://redmine.thqnordic.com/issues/73318
The possibility of crashes apparently starts to happen in Ragnarok, in Atlantis the frequency is higher, the most annoying is the loss of recognition of the region explored on the map because in this game I like to leave the map fully explored beating every enemy on the whole map.
If they need to choose only 1 bug to remove from all the bugs I saw, I think it should be this one, it’s the most urgent.

You are lucky, I thought this problem happens on all computers

I suppose the problem occurs when the graphics becomes too heavy, although I cannot believe it is possible with my computer configuration :D Anyway, I think I've had the problem only once in the last couple of weeks. Maybe Windows update, video card driver update etc. finally came to peace :D

Well, several people reported the same problem in topics in STEAM, to me the problem rarely happens outside the acts "Ragnarok" and "Atlantis", when I arrive in "Ragnarok" I already know that the problem will happen and it happens sometimes, in "Atlantis" the frequency is so great that I don’t even go to it in my "Replay-Value", it's good that this last act is currently optional.

EDITED:
In other words, in most cases the PC meets the requirements which shows that this is a problem that needs to be solved.
