Legendary Craftsmanship deep-dive
« on: 05 February 2023, 07:39:53 »
Hi all

Looking to get some experienced insight and discussion on the Legendary Craftsmanship quest, the very last side quest in the Ragnarok expansion.

As we know, the reward allows you to “upgrade” Epic or Legendary items. In the upgrade process, non-fixed, variable attributes on the item are re-rolled, while static ones remain the same, and a random selection of a new prefix and suffix are invisibly added to the item. For example, an item with the following statistics could change as follows:

+21% Elemental Resistance
+35% Bleeding Resistance
25% Weapon Damage Becomes Elemental
+1 to all skills in the Rune Tree

could become

+14% Elemental Resistance (variable stat, re-rolled for the worse)
+41% Bleeding Resistance (variable stat, re-rolled for the better)
25% Weapon Damage Becomes Elemental (static stat, remains the same)
+1 to all skills in the Rune Tree (static stat, remains the same)
17% Reduction to all Requirements (‘Lithe’ prefix, added by upgrade)
+202 Health (‘of Health’ suffix, added by upgrade)

Given the randomness of the re-rolls, this quest reward can sometimes actually negatively change your item, weakening strong variable attributes while adding useless new affixes. Because of this, it is worth taking care when upgrading items central to your build. If you have multiple copies of the same item, it is worth upgrading the weaker one, as it is more likely to re-roll the variable attributes for the better.

With all of the above established, I’d be interested in hearing what other veterans think on the following questions:

  • How useful do you think this quest reward is? Do you rate it?
  • What item slots do you prefer upgrading? Do you prefer upgrading weapons, shields, jewellery or armour?
  • Are there any items that particularly benefit from this upgrade process? Items with lots of static attributes?

I’d also like to hear any other thoughts of game veterans on this quest reward. It’s quite a unique reward, and fitting for the very final reward of the AER/A game.

Thanks!
